RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER

I recently picked up the Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer at my local drugstore because it was on sale. I was curious to see if this would hold up to the test, as I usually have a problem with my eyeshadow creasing in the inner corners of my eyes.

RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER

This primer claims to:

  • Maximize color and wear of your eye shadow color 4 hours up to 7 hours
  • Instantly smoothes and preps lids
  • Make your color smudge-proof
With the initial swipe, I was surprised to find that this primer goes on white and pretty watery. After blended into the skin, it creates an almost powdery finish.

I applied the primer all over my right eye, leaving my left eye bare (though keep in mind that I also place foundation and concealer over my eyelids as there tends to be discoloration there). I proceeded to apply my eye makeup as usual. Here are the before shots for both eyes:
WITHOUT RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER WITH RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER I didn’t find much of a difference with application of the eyeshadows. Both eyes applied evenly and I didn’t notice that the colors appeared more pigmented on the side with primer. I continued my day as normal, nothing too strenuous but I was out in about 85 degrees Fahrenheit temperature. After about 5 hours of wear, which is well between the primer claim of 4-7 hours of color wear, my eyeshadow was beyond creased:WITH RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER WITHOUT RIMMEL EXAGGERATE UNDERCOVER SHADOW PRIMER

As you can see from the images, both eyes have creased quite substantially, as do most shimmery eyeshadows I use. In comparison to both eyes, it seems the eye with no primer actually held up better than the one with the Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer. Coincidence? I’m thinking no.

Grade: D

Overall, I would skip this primer altogether. It didn’t do much for the color payoff or longevity of my eyeshadow. The creasing that happened was much worse than with no primer at all, and I just felt like a hotmess at the end of the day. Have you tried this primer and had better results?
